Welcome to the new Badminton Sheffield website thank you for taking the time to look at what we have created.
LEAGUE TABLES HAVE NOW BEEN FINALISED. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO START ORGANISING YOUR FIXTURES FOR THE COMING SEASON
I hope you have all had a really super summer and, I assume, have come back unfit and over- weight.
Just me then ! ! !
The AGM is on the 14th September and the fixture meeting around two weeks later on the 29th September. Both meetings are in the upstairs room at Abbeydale Sports Club and they start at 7pm prompt. Please note it is mandatory that a representative of each club attends both meetings. Failure to do so could result in non-participation in the league for the coming season.
The website is still under development and Mark Needham, who has done sterling work to date, will bring us up to date and explain where we are now and where we are aiming to be in a brief presentation at the AGM.
In August we saw the 2016 Olympics from Rio de Janeiro and Team GB did us proud bringing home more medals than in 2012 and 2008 and more than all the other participating countries with the exception of the USA.
In particular I would like to congratulate the Badminton squad and initially Marcus Ellis (Yorkshire) and Chris Langridge in winning the bronze medal at Men’s Doubles. In a superb game they overcame a high ranking Chinese pair very convincingly in the third end of a top quality game. A magnificent achievement!
Rajif Ouseph also did exceedingly well getting into the Men’s Singles quarter finals.
We will now be seeing the 2016 Paralympics and again we wish all members of Team GB the very best of luck. I am sure you will give them your support.
The committee would ask again for your assistance. We do need additional members to serve on the Badminton Sheffield Committee. Without sufficient numbers we cannot function.
We urgently need a treasurer. Gavin Johns, who preceded me as Chairman and is currently our Treasurer, is retiring from the committee after many years of excellent service to league badminton in Sheffield, he will be missed, and we owe him a large debt of gratitude for all his hard work and wish him well for the future.
Also leaving the committee after a long membership is John Uttley we thank John for his efforts in the past and wish him better health and every happiness.
Please consider if you can spare a couple of hours each second month to help out. It would be appreciated.
It just leaves me to wish you all an enjoyable and successful season, free of injury.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
Chairman Badminton Sheffield.
